2016-2017 Playing Season Up-Date

These are meant to be highlights only and the O.R.A. Operating Manual - G&T section is a must for all teams to read and follow. Any further questions need to be directed to your Regional G&T Coordinator. 
All ‘U12’ Provincial teams must make decisions on which tournaments to choose and should do so with the assistance of their Regional G&T Coordinator. Every ‘U12’ Provincial team must submit online using the link provided to the teams by September 20th a list of five tournaments that they would be interested in attending, ranked in order of preference. Teams must indicate the total number of in and out of region tournaments they wish to attend and submit their team grid by September 18th.   Each team wishing to attend the ‘U12’ Provincial Event in Ottawa must meet the 2-O.R.A. sanctioned tournament (at least 1 of which must be outside of region) and not more than 5 tournaments including the Provincial Event requirement.  


All ‘A’ level teams must make decisions on which tournaments to choose and should do so with the assistance of their Regional G&T Coordinator. All U14A, U16A and U19A teams must submit by July 15th a list of six tournaments that they would like to attend, ranked in order of preference online using the link provided to the teams. All 18+A teams must submit by September 14th a list of six tournaments that they would like to attend, ranked in order of preference online using the link provided to the teams.  Teams must include tournaments from at least four different regions and a minimum of two tournaments must be prior to December 1st.  The top four tournament selections must include two options from out of region.  All teams must indicate the total number of in and out of region tournaments they wish to attend as well as how many they wish to attend prior to December 12th.  Each U14A through U19A team wishing to attend the Provincial ‘A’ Championships in Pickering must meet the 4-O.R.A. sanctioned tournament requirement by attending the tournaments they are assigned to through the tournament selection process.  This year the 14 teams attending the ‘A’ Provincials in the U14, U16 and U19 divisions will be divided into two groups of 7 according to the rankings as of the cut-off date of February 19, 2017. Host teams and one team per Region per division will be guaranteed the opportunity to participate in Provincials, but not necessarily in the top tier. 18+ A Jacks Division ranking cut-off date will be February 12, 2017. 

18+A teams attending the “AA” Provincials in Nepean will be divided into two groups of 7 according to the rankings as of the cut-off date of February 19, 2017.   One team per Region per division will be guaranteed the opportunity to participate in Provincials, but not necessarily in the top tier.

All ‘AA’ level teams wishing to compete in the Provincial Championships must meet the 4-O.R.A. sanctioned tournament requirement by attending the tournaments they are assigned to through the tournament selection process. Only the results from one game between any two given teams will count towards rankings, regardless of how many times the two teams actually meet. All “AA” teams must submit by July 15th a list of 6 tournaments that they would like to attend, in order of preference online using the link provided to the teams.  Tournament selections submitted must include at least one option from each of Central, Eastern, Southern and Western regions.  At the August SCM, the committee will go through the list of preferred tournaments and assign teams to a minimum of four tournaments accordingly. The ranking games will be assigned at this meeting.  Failure to provide this information will result being assigned to tournaments as fits the requirements of the Provincial G&T Committee. The game which will count as the ranking game will be identified prior to the beginning of the tournaments. All ‘AA’ teams and a maximum of twelve18+ Jacks Division teams meeting the criteria will be invited to participate at the Provincial ‘AA’ Event in Nepean.

Wild Card Formula

Teams aspiring for a Wild Card to attend the Pickering Provincials for the 2016-2017 season will be selected according to their winning percentages as per the ranking chart posted on the ORA website. The tournaments being considered for wild card stats are to be completed by February 19th, 2017.

 

Frequently Asked Questions
  1. How does a team apply for a Wild Card position?

    Wild Card applications will be included on the Intent to Proceed to Provincials Forms which will be available on the ORA website.  The Online Intent to Proceed to Provincials Form must be completed and submitted by November 20th. The Intent to Proceed to Provincials Form that requires the signatures of all bench staff will be available from the individual Regions.  Please check with your Regional G&T Coordinator for the deadline to submit this Intent to Proceed Form and the Provincials registration fee to the Region.


  2. Do league games qualify for Wild Card stats?

    Only tournament games between Ontario registered teams qualify for wild card stats.

  3. Does a Quebec tournament qualify as an Out-of-Region tournament?

    Out of Region refers only to tournaments held inside Ontario, but not in the region of the team in question.

  4. Do any Quebec tournament games count for stats?

    Out-of-Province tournament games count if played against another Ontario team registered in the same division and level with O.R.A.

  5. How many tournaments must my team attend?

    Every team applying to attend the ‘U12’ Provincial Event must attend 2 O.R.A. Sanctioned tournaments and not more than 5 tournaments including the Provincial Event.  At least one of these must be out-of-region; however both can be out of region (NW exemptions allowed as per Operating Manual G&T section).  Every U14, U16 and U19 team applying to attend the ‘A’ Provincials must attend 4 O.R.A. Sanctioned tournaments as assigned through the tournament selection process.  . Every team applying to attend ‘AA’ Provincials must attend 4 O.R.A. Sanctioned tournaments as assigned through the tournament selection process.


  6. How does G&T get results from the tournaments?

    Each O.R.A. tournament host must submit their results within 24 hours after the end of the tournament to the Regional G&T Coordinator.

  7. How does the Provincial G&T Committee get results from the Out-Of-Province games that count?

    Both teams are required to submit these results to their Regional G&T Coordinator as soon as possible after their game(s).

  8. Who ensures that the stats are correct?

    Coaches are required to verify the correct postings for tournament results and to check that ranking statistics on the O.R.A website are accurate. Contact the Regional G&T Coordinator if there are any errors immediately.

  9. How do we know what tournaments qualify for using stats?

    Tournaments completed by the deadlines qualify. The U12 teams attending the U12 Petite Provincial Event in Forest have a deadline date of February 5th for tournament stats.  The ‘AA’ teams attending Provincials in Nepean have ad deadline date of February 12th for tournament stats.  The U14, U16, U19 and 18+ ‘A’ teams attending Provincials in Pickering or Nepean have a deadline date of February 19th for tournament stats. 


  10. Do the top fourteen teams automatically go to Provincials?

    No.  Fourteen teams attend Provincials.  Each Region will send a team designated as their Regional Representative.  The process for determining this representative varies from Region to Region, and the process for each Region can be found HERE
    In addition, the host association may send 1 team in each division.  All remaining spaces will be assigned by the wild card process.  This will include 6 wild card spaces, plus any Region or host space not filled (e.g. Region/host does not have any teams or any teams who have declared an intent to proceed to provincials). 
    Teams will then play in tiers based on their Final Score Rank as determined in the ranking chart posted on the O.R.A. website.

    In all cases, teams are still required to meet the Provincials Eligibility Requirements in order to attend Provincials



  11. How does my team know if they received a Wild Card?

    Rankings will be shown in alphabetical order until the deadline. At that time the rankings will be verified and sorted by ranking. Wild Card spots will be noted. Regional G&T Coordinators will then notify their teams of the final rankings and the Wild Card selections.

  12. How will the pools for the teams attending the U12 Petite Provincial Event in Ottawa be determined?

    All teams will have their stats against each other sorted and be dealt with in a similar manner to Wild Cards. The Provincial G&T Committee will then assign the groupings and notify their teams as to which division they will play in.

  13. How will the A Provincials tiers be determined?

    The overall teams will be decided three weeks before the first day of Provincials. After that all of those teams will have their stats against each other sorted and be dealt with in a similar manner to Wild Cards. The Provincial G&T Committee will then assign the groupings. Rankings will be shown in alphabetical order until the deadline. At that time the rankings will be verified and sorted by ranking. Wild Card Spots will be noted. Regional G&T Coordinators will then notify their teams of the final rankings and the Wild Card selections.

  14. How will the AA Provincials rankings be determined?

    Only one game between the same teams will count towards the rankings. The Provincial G & T Committee will determine at the beginning of the year which game will count if two teams are going to play each other multiple times.
    Coaches will be encouraged to work cooperatively, to contact each other to find out which tournaments their teams are applying to so that they can see all teams in their division during the season to help the selection process of the ranking games. The Provincial G & T Committee will have the final decision as to which game will count as ranking games

    -2 points for win, 1 point for tie, 0 points for a loss

    -The tie breaking chart will be used to rank teams.

    For the “AA” Provincials if there are twelve (12) teams or less in a division, then there will be one pool at provincials. If there are thirteen (13) teams or more the division will be split into two tiers based on ranking. The two tiers will be independent of each other and there will be no crossover between TIERS.



  15. Can our team choose which stats they want to use?

    No you cannot.


    2017 Provincial Events - Accommodations

    The procedure for the 2017 Provincial Events for booking of accommodations will proceed as noted below. 
    No one will be booked until the team is confirmed to be attending.
    November 25:  Ontario Ringette will send to the designated Travel Agency a list of teams who
    will be attending the ‘U12’ Provincial Event in Forest and the ‘U14AA, U16AA, U19AA and 18+ Jacks teams who will be attending the ‘AA’ Provincial Championships in Nepean.

    February 13:  Ontario Ringette will send to the designated Travel Agency a list of 18+A teams who will be attending the ‘AA’ Provincial Championships in Nepean as Regional Representatives.

    February  21:  Ontario Ringette will send to the designated Travel Agency a list of teams who will be attending the ‘A’ Provincial Championships in Pickering as Regional Representatives and the 18+A teams who will be attending the Provincial Championships in Nepean. 

    February 23: Ontario Ringette will send to the designated Travel Agency a list of teams who will be attending the ‘A’ Provincial Championships as Wild Cards. 

    For each team, the ORA designated Travel Agency will receive two contact names along with email addresses and phone numbers. These will have been verified.
     
    December 1:  the ORA designated Travel Agency will contact via email at noon, the teams who are attending the ‘U12’ and the ‘AA’ Provincial Events.

    February 14:  the ORA designated Travel Agency will contact via email at noon, the 18+A teams who are attending the ‘AA’ Provincial Championships as Regional Representatives.

    February 21:  the ORA designated Travel Agency will contact via email at noon, the 18+A teams who are attending the ‘AA’ Championships as Wild Cards. 

    February 24:  the ORA designated Travel Agency will contact via email at noon, the 18+A teams who are attending the ‘AA’ Championships as Wild Cards.

    If one of your authorized team contacts has not heard from the ORA designated Travel Agency by 4:00 p.m. on the specified day, then they should contact the ORA office directly. No one should contact the ORA office directly prior to the specified room release dates.
