January 2008 Update for A and AA Provincials

Provincials for Provincial Petite Divisions

The Provincial Petite division has been divided and we are happy to announce that all 29 teams will be attending a provincial event. There will be 3 Tiers – the Jacks and McCarthy Tiers (19 teams) will go to Whitby and the Lajeunesse Tier (10 teams) will go to Oshawa. The Jacks and McCarthy Tiers in Whitby will never interlock or crossover and there will be separate Championship games. The 19 teams in the Jacks and McCarthy Tiers will continue to have their stats collected and analyzed until February 13th. At that time the data will be used to determine which teams will be in each of the 2 Tiers. The team contacts have been released to Hudson Travel who will contact the person listed by the Region G&T Co-ordinator. Do not contact Hudson. If you do not hear in a timely fashion contact your G&T Co-ordinator.

Provincials for Tween to Open Divisions

The contact info for teams who are confirmed to be attending Provincials has been sent to Hudson Travel by the regional G&T Co-ordinators. Hudson Travel will be contacting teams soon. Please do not call Hudson. If you do not hear in a timely fashion contact your G&T Co-ordinator.

2007-2008 Playing Season Update

NOTE: These are meant to be highlights only and the O.R.A. Operating Manual - G&T section is a must for all teams to read and follow. Any further questions need to be directed to your Region G&T Co-ordinator.

All teams must make decisions on which tournaments to choose and should do so with the assistance of their G&T co-ordinator. Each team wishing to attend a Provincial event must meet the 2-tournament (1 outside of region) requirement. Teams must be able to prove their attendance.

Provincial Petite

There have been some very important changes to the Provincial Petite program. In an effort to have as many Petite teams attend the Provincial events as possible the following process will be followed.

All Provincial Petite level teams will register as Provincial Petite. These teams are required to attend a min. of two (2) O.R.A. sanctioned tournaments (at least one of which must be outside of their region) before the O.R.A. G&T Committee meets in mid-January. The Whitby tournament is included.

The G&T committee will then evaluate the results of the Provincial Petite events in ORA sanctioned events (only) and decide how to group these teams into 2 groupings. The top grouping will attend the Provincial Event in Whitby (assigned into 2 different groups) and the others will vie for the right to attend the Provincial event in Oshawa through the normal regional representation, host, and wild card spots. The numbers in these groupings are unknown at the present time but there will be a minimum of 10 at each event (as long as there are sufficient number of teams eligible and available). The Northeast and Northwest teams will still be able to ask (in writing) for an exemption to the 2-tournament rule and must contact the G&T Chair to discuss this issue further.

Teams will be ranked at the January meeting using their winning percentage as well as various cycles of stats of their on-ice performance to verify placement.

All teams will remain Provincial Petite for the entire season. Teams will be assigned groupings and which Provincial event they will attend. Petite teams assigned to attend the Whitby Provincial event will all be attending. There will be no Wild Cards or regional reps. Petite teams assigned to attend the Oshawa Provincial event will attend if chosen as host, Regional Rep, or Wild Card.

Wild Card stats will be used for all Petite teams attending Whitby in order to determine whom they will play at that particular event. The deadline for events to count for these stats will be the same as all other Wild Card stats (2 weeks before the Provincial event).

2007-2008 Wild Card Ranking Notes

The G&T Committee has compiled the stats being posted. If you find any discrepancies please contact the Chair of the G&T Committee. Please DO NOT contact the Ontario Ringette office concerning any questions.

Game results are not valid for these stats if the opposing team is not a registered Ontario team at the same level and division and/or not qualified to attend Provincials. Stats for all teams who are eligible in each division and level will be compiled and the goal is to have the stats posted within ten days of any event. The postings from a particular weekend will only be done once i.e. if there are two events that weekend, all stats will be put together and posted, they will not be posted as each is submitted. If a team plays a Quebec team the results do not count. If two eligible teams play each other in an out-of-province tournament, the results are to be submitted to their Region G&T Coordinator to be included in the results. Failure to do so can seriously affect the team?s ability to proceed to provincials.

There are many checks and cross checks done to ensure team stats are valid. All of the teams may not show right now. G&T has used a database of teams for this listing. Any new teams registered before January 8th or moved (for example from ?B? to ?A?) will be added once officially registered.

All teams must ensure that their Intent to Proceed to Provincials form, if applicable, supplied by their Region, is completed as soon as possible to assist G&T in the planning process.

When contacting anyone please make sure that your name, position with the team, team association, level and division, as well as contact details are included. Emails with no signature and valid return e-mail are very frustrating and cannot be dealt with. Sometimes a telephone call will clarify the issue much quicker.

Provincial Petite stats will be used in the manner outlined in the G&T section of the ORA Operating Manual found online. They will not be posted on the website before January 15th. The G&T Committee will meet mid-January to determine the placement of the teams within the division. The stats will then be posted with the designation of the Whitby or Oshawa event.  Final seeding and divisions for Whitby and for Oshawa will be determined by using the same deadline for results as all other divisions attending that event. All Petite teams should contact the G&T Coordinator in their region to confirm the stats that they have so that the results can be verified before January 11th. At the present time we do not know if there will be room for all teams in Petite to attend; however, it may be possible that all will be able to attend one of the events based on the numbers we have at the present time.

Any questions related to these items, other than stats corrections, please contact your Regional G&T Coordinator.

Wild Card Ranking Changes

Tween through Open ?AA? aspiring for a Wild Card to attend the Whitby Provincials and all teams competing for a Wild Card placement in Oshawa will see the following changes to the formula used last season as a trial. Capping the exposure multiplier at 1.00 plus giving 1 point to a team that loses in a final of a tournament have answered the changes requested by the majority of the people who sent in letters and email with their concerns. The requirement of tournaments to be completed (4) four weeks before Provincials has been changed to (2) two weeks to allow for more eligible events and to lengthen the season. G&T will be evaluating over this season to see if any other adjustments are necessary for the following season. No changes will be made until after the season at the April Standing Committee Meetings in mid ? April.

  1. How does a team apply for a Wild Card position?

Wild Card applications will be included on the Region Intent to Proceed to Provincials Form. Contact your Region G&T Co-ordinator for the deadline for your region.

  2. Do league games qualify for Wild Card stats?

Only tournament games between ORA teams who are registered in the same division and level will be counted.

  3. Does a Quebec tournament qualify as an Out-of-Region tournament?

Out of Region refers only to tournaments held inside Ontario, but not in the region of the team in question.

  4. Do any Quebec tournament games count for stats?

Out-of-Province tournament games count if played against another Ontario team registered in the same division and level with O.R.A.

  5. How many tournaments must my team attend?

Every team applying to attend Provincials must attend 2 O.R.A. Sanctioned tournaments; one of these must be out-of-region; however both can be. (NE & NW exemptions allowed as per Operating Manual G&T section).

  6. How does G&T get results from the tournaments?

Each O.R.A. tournament host must submit their results within 5 days to the region G&T Co-ordinator.

  7. How does G&T get results from the out-of-province games that count?

Both teams are required to submit these results to their G&T Co-ordinator as soon as possible after their game(s).

  8. Who ensures that the stats are correct?

Coaches are required to verify the correct postings for tournament results and to check ranking statistics on the O.R.A website to ensure accuracy. Contact the Region G&T Co-ordinator if there are any errors.

  9. How do we know what tournaments qualify for using stats?

Tournaments completed by the deadlines qualify. For 2008 “A” that date is March 5th and for “AA” it is Feb. 13th
    * This is a major change. The timeline has been reduced from four (4) weeks to two (2) to allow for more tournament results to be used.

  10. Do the top ten automatically go to Provincials?

The Regions have the right to a Representative, as does the Host Association in all divisions except Petite. Any other openings will be filled with the Wild Cards. A confirmed team may be further down in the rankings i.e. if the Host team is #13 in the rankings then only 9 teams from the top would be attending.

  11. How does my team know if they received a Wild Card?

Rankings will be shown in alphabetical order until the deadline. At that time the rankings will be verified and sorted by ranking. Wild Card Spots will be noted. G&T will then notify their teams of the final rankings and the Wild Card selections.

  12. How will the 2 Petite groups attending Whitby Provincials be determined?

The overall teams will be decided in mid-January. After that all of those teams will have their stats against each other sorted and be dealt with in a similar manner to wild Cards. The G&T will then assign the groupings.

  13. How will Petite stats be done for teams wanting to attend the Oshawa Provincial event?

After G&T assign the teams vying for a position at the Oshawa Provincial event, the teams’ stats will be posted removing all those, which involve teams attending the Whitby Provincial event.

2008 Provincial "A" and "AA" Championships - Accommodations

In an effort to make the accommodations process easier for everyone, we will be dealing with them differently this season.

No one will be booked until the team is confirmed to be attending. Starting January 14th, Ontario Ringette will send Hudson Travel a list of the teams who are automatically attending. As regions decide on their representatives, these will be passed along and lastly Wild Cards will be decided 2 weeks before and then submitted. No team will contact Hudson Travel about Provincials until Hudson contacts them. Once the team is confirmed Hudson Travel will make the final arrangements for the teams accommodations at Provincials by contacting the name given to the Regional G&T Co-ordinator. This means that the your regional G&T Co-ordinator will require ASAP the name of the person responsible for booking rooms for your specific team, their phone number and email address. Once Hudson contacts the team, they will be given the online registration procedure. If you have any questions, please contact your Region G&T Co-ordinator. To find their contact information click here and select your region.
