2009 Provincials

Click here for an important Membership Notice outlining the standards that must be met by participants at 2009 Provincials

2008-2009 Playing Season Up-Date

These are meant to be highlights only and the O.R.A. Operating Manual - G&T section is must for all teams to read and follow. Any further questions need to be directed to your Region G&T Co-ordinator.

All teams must make decisions on which tournaments to choose and should do so with the assistance of their G&T co-ordinator. Each team wishing to attend a Provincial event must meet the 2-tournament (at least 1 of which must be outside of region) requirement. Teams must be able to prove their attendance.

Wild Card stats results deadlines are: Feb. 11th for London and Feb. 25th for Gloucester.

The FAQ section will hopefully answer any of your questions and if they do not please contact your Region G&T Co-ordinator.

Provincial Petite

There have been some very important changes to the Provincial Petite program. In an effort to have as many Petite teams attend the Provincial events as possible the following process will be followed.

All Provincial Petite level teams will register as Provincial Petite. These teams are required to attend a minimum of two (2) O.R.A. sanctioned tournaments (at least one of which must be outside of their region) by the time the O.R.A. G&T Committee meet January 10-11th. Tournaments held on this weekend are included in the deadline.

The G&T committee will then evaluate the results of the Provincial Petite teams in ORA sanctioned events (only) and decide how to group these teams into 2 sections. The top section will attend the Provincial event in London (assigned into at least 2 different groups) and the others will vie for the right to attend the Provincial event in Gloucester through the normal regional representation and wild card spots. The numbers in these groupings are unknown at the present time. G&T will attempt to have all teams compete at one of these events. The Northeast and Northwest teams will be able to ask (in writing) for an exemption to the 2-tournament rule but must show due diligence. This exemption means that G&T cannot verify placement at provincials due to lack of stats.

Teams will be ranked at the January meeting using their winning percentage as well as various cycles of stats of their on-ice performance to verify placement and which event they will attend (or vie for).

All teams will remain Provincial Petite for the entire season. Petite teams assigned to attend the London Provincial event will all be attending. There will be no Wild Cards or regional reps. Petite teams assigned to attend the Gloucester Provincial event will attend if chosen as Regional Rep, or Wild Card unless space is available for all to attend.

Wild Card stats will be used for all Petite teams attending London in order to determine who they will play at that particular event. The deadline for events to count for these stats will be the same as all other Wild Card stats (3 weeks before the Provincial event).

Wild Card Formula

Tween through Open teams aspiring for a Wild Card to attend the London or Gloucester Provincials will use the formula used for the 2007-2008 season. The requirement of tournaments to be completed (2) two weeks before Provincials has been changed to (3) three weeks to allow for a reasonable timeline in preparing for the events. G&T will be evaluating over this season to see if any other adjustments are necessary for the following season. No changes will be made until after the season at the April Standing Committee Meetings in mid ? April.

  1. How does a team apply for a Wild Card position?

Wild Card applications will be included on the Region Intent to Proceed to Provincials Form. Contact your Region G&T Co-ordinator for the deadline for your region.

  2. Do league games qualify for Wild Card stats?

Only tournament games between ORA teams who are registered in the same division and level will be counted.

  3. Does a Quebec tournament qualify as an Out-of-Region tournament?

Out of Region refers only to tournaments held inside Ontario, but not in the region of the team in question.

  4. Do any Quebec tournament games count for stats?

Out-of-Province tournament games count if played against another Ontario team registered in the same division and level with O.R.A.

  5. How many tournaments must my team attend?

Every team applying to attend Provincials must attend 2 O.R.A. Sanctioned tournaments; one of these must be out-of-region; however both can be out of region (NE & NW exemptions allowed as per Operating Manual G&T section).

  6. How does G&T get results from the tournaments?

Each O.R.A. tournament host must submit their results within 5 days to the Region G&T Co-ordinator

  7. How does G&T get results from the out-of-province games that count?

Both teams are required to submit these results to their G&T Co-ordinator as soon as possible after their game(s).

  8. Who ensures that the stats are correct?

Coaches are required to verify the correct postings for tournament results and to check that ranking statistics on the O.R.A website are accurate. Contact the Region G&T Co-ordinator if there are any errors immediately.

  9. How do we know what tournaments qualify for using stats?

Tournaments completed by the deadlines qualify. For Gloucester, the date is Feb. 25th and for London, it is  Feb.11th

  10. Do the top ten automatically go to Provincials?

For all divisions except Petite, the Regions have a rep and the host is allowed a team in each division. Any other openings will be filled with the Wild Cards. A confirmed team may be further down in the rankings i.e. if the Host team is #13 in the rankings then only 9 teams from the top would be attending.

  11. How does my team know if they received a Wild Card?

Rankings will be shown in alphabetical order until the deadline. At that time the rankings will be verified and sorted by ranking. Wild Card spots will be noted. G&T will then notify their teams of the final rankings and the Wild Card selections.

  12. How will the Petite groups attending London Provincials be determined?

The overall teams will be decided in mid-January. After that all of those teams will have their stats against each other sorted and be dealt with in a similar manner to Wild Cards. The G&T Committee will then assign the groupings. Rankings will be shown in alphabetical order until the deadline. At that time the rankings will be verified and sorted by ranking. Wild Card Spots will be noted. G&T will then notify their teams of the final rankings and the Wild Card selections.

  13. How will Petite stats be done for teams wanting to attend the Gloucester Provincial event?

After G&T assign the teams vying for a position at the Gloucester Provincial event, the teams? stats will be posted removing all those which involve teams attending the London Provincial event.

  14. Can our team choose which stats they want to use?

    No you cannot.

NOTE: Out-of-region refers only to tournaments inside Ontario but not in the region of the team in question.

2009 Provincial "A" and "AA" Championships - Accommodations

The procedure for the 2009 Provincial Championships for booking of accommodations will proceed as noted below.

No one will be booked until the team is confirmed to be attending. Starting January 14th, Ontario Ringette will send Hudson Travel a list of teams who will automatically be attending. As Regions decide on their representatives, these will be passed along and lastly Wild Cards will be decided 3 weeks before and then submitted. No team will contact Hudson Travel about Provincials until Hudson contacts them.

Once the team is confirmed Hudson Travel will make the final arrangements for the team accommodations at Provincials by contacting the name given to the Regional G&T Co-ordinator. This means that your Regional G&T co-ordinator will require ASAP, the name of the person responsible for booking rooms for your specific team, their phone number, and email address. Once Hudson contacts the name given, they will be given the online registration procedure.

If you have any questions, please contact your regional G&T co-ordinator. To find their contact information click here and select your region.
