MEMBERSHIP NOTICE

ONTARIO HEALTH CARD NUMBERS

For many years it has been required practice to request OHIP numbers at the time of member registration.

Upon further investigation of this practice, it was discovered that requesting OHIP numbers has now been illegal for a number of years. The requesting of OHIP numbers must be discontinued immediately. Bill 24, which governs the use of OHIP cards, provides for penalties of up to $5,000.00 for individuals and $25,000.00 for Corporations who collect OHIP numbers.

We are advised that Health Care Providers will not refuse acceptance of any individual who can not produce an OHIP number in the case of an emergency.

Our Membership Registration Form will be amended at next printing to reflect this change.
