MEMBERSHIP NOTICE

During their meeting of June 8, 1997, the Ringette Canada Board of Directors passed the following motion (97-40): "Allow an extension, over and above the September 1, 1997 deadline of mandatory implementation of type V and type VI face shields, to the goaltender position only, for those individuals who wear a one-piece goaltender specific headform. The length of the extension be no later that September 1, 1998." This information was in turn distributed to the member associations of the O.R.A. on August 13, 1997 in the form of a Membership Notice.

At their meeting of July 11, 1998, the O.R.A. Board of Directors confirmed their position that, effective September 1, 1998, any player registered with the Ontario Ringette Association who is playing in the goalkeeping position will be required to wear either a CSA-certified hockey helmet with a (compatible) CSA-certified Type 5 or 6 face mask affixed, or a CSA-certified Type 3/5 goalkeeper helmet.

Put another way, as of September 1, 1998, O.R.A.-registered goalkeepers will no longer be permitted to wear one-piece "pro-style" goal helmets which do not meet CSA’s standard for ringette facial protection. Goalkeepers will be permitted to wear either a helmet with (Type 5/6) mask attached (as per all other players), or the one-piece "pro-style" goal helmet carrying the Calcoat name and bearing both Type 3 and Type 5 CSA certification stickers.

Should your association members have any questions regarding the above, please contact the O.R.A. office.
