Doug was born on August 12, 1952 in Peterborough, Ontario. He currently lives in Whitby with his wife of 24 years, Sheila, and his 4 children, Nicole, Lindsay, Jeff and Scott. Doug is a chartered accountant and has been in his own practice in Oshawa for over 23 years.
Doug loves coaching and being with the players, probably because he is a big kid at heart. He has been involved in competitive sports since he was 5 years old winning several city and regional championships in several sports and 1 provincial men's curling championship (1985). He has coached ringette at the "AA" level for 7 years, all with the Whitby Ringette Association. His teams have won 5 Provincial "AA" medals including 2 silvers at petite (1994&1995), a gold medal at tween (1996), as well as a bronze and silver medal at belle (1999&2000). Doug was the central region coach of the year in 2000 and has been the director of player and coach development for Whitby Ringette for the past 3 years.
Doug has coached other sports at the rep level for several years including boys baseball and lacrosse. His baseball teams have won 2 Whitby Baseball championships (1992 & 1994) and finished 5th in the 1995 all Ontario provincial "AAA" finals. He was the manager of the Whitby Bantam lacrosse team that won the 2001 all Ontario field lacrosse championship.
Doug feels that it is both an honour and privilege to be working with such an experienced coaching staff and the 21 wonderfully talented athletes that play for Team Ontario Ringette. |
