Courtney Howell

Courtney Howell is 17 years old and lives in Pickering. She is the youngest of four. She has a "minute-older" twin sister, a 22-year-old sister and a 26-year-old brother. Their names are Ashleigh, Lindsay, and Chris. Courtney was originally born in Whitby, but then moved to Ajax and has now officially landed in Pickering.

Courtney started playing ringette when she was seven years old. She played in Pickering for seven years until she moved her ringette bag to Whitby. She played there for one year and then shipped her bag to Ajax for a year. This year, she is playing for the Belle "AA" team in Whitby. Her coaches are the same coaches from her "AAA" team last year, Sue Shantz and Karen Meek. Back in her Pickering days, they mostly cared about fun as compared to competition and winning all the time, but as the girls got older, they started to enjoy the competition. Her team trains all the time to do their best against all of the other teams. I guess you could say, "They go for gold". In the past, Courtney has received three provincial gold medals, and once they got to go to Nationals in New Brunswick. Courtney has been to the Nationals twice. The second time she went was with Gloucester in 2002. As a pick-up, Courtney felt so much pressure, but after the first game she was fine and had an absolutely amazing time. Also, last year a group of girls from her Ajax Belle "AA" team went and tried out for Team Canada. They were hard try-outs, but she had a lot of fun. Surprisingly to Courtney, she got called back as part of the top 50 to go and try-out again. She got cut from that one, but she had an awesome experience.

Since grade nine, Courtney has been attending Pine Ridge Secondary School. It is the best high school ever, and she absolutely loves it. After high school Courtney would like to attend either Durham or Fleming College for Police Foundations. Ever since grade three Courtney has wanted to be a police officer. She is looking forward to it and is looking forward to getting out of high school.

Aside from school, Courtney plays on two ringette teams, and the soccer and volleyball team at school. She does not work because she has absolutely no time whatsoever. Between ringette, schoolwork, and her other sports, she sleeps and eats-believe it or not! Courtney has always loved being on the go all the time, so she does not mind always being busy.
